Couple Tries Selling Kid for Cash, Car

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - March 25, 2007 - A Kentucky couple is charged with trying to sell a 15-month-old girl for three-thousand dollars and a SUV.

Is the problem that they tried to overcharge for a Kentucky baby? I would think that the most you should try to sell a Kentucky baby for would be a 1982 Ford Escort with 3 wheels and a chicken living where the engine would normally be.

A Daviess County Sheriff’s lieutenant says 32-year-old Charles Hope Junior and 26-year-old Amber Revlett allegedly planned to use the money to pay off his fines for previous criminal charges.

First of all, what type of cruel parents of a child born in Kentucky would give their baby boy the middle name hope, when hope is the one thing that the little youngster would never have. Second of all, isn’t this kind of like selling crack to pay your excise tax?

Hope tells the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer that he wasn’t trying to sell his girlfriend’s little girl. He says the two women he’s accused of trying to sell the baby to were just trying to get the child for themselves.

I think what he meant to say was that since they wanted to buy the baby, it wasn’t really like he was selling him. It’s no wonder that the questions derived from the hit TV show “Are You Smarter than a 5^th Grader” are now the basis of a required graduate course at the University of Kentucky.

Revlett’s three children have been placed in the custody of child protective services.

His other children must be madder than heck that they weren’t the lucky ones to be sold.

In Kentucky, selling a child for adoption is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

From the child’s standpoint it would be like winning the lottery.
